Hi when dead heading my roses do I just remove the petals or the whole flower?

With any deadheading you are aiming to remove the seed head so the plant doesn't think it has done its work for the year and stop flowering. Removing the dead flower tricks it into flowering again to set seed again.Comment

Although I like collecting rose hips too for making cordial later in the year.

Imagine you're cutting a flower for a vase - you'd cut the whole flower off with a bit of stem.
