  • Ragged parents!

Just been watching the birds ( lots of different types) feeding off the peanuts near my kitchen window and suddenly realised how much in the last couple of weeks how ragged they have become.

We live near a river so I'm never too worried about leaving water out for them, but I spotted some sparrows fighting over the chook water and drinking stale water in a bucket

Think I'll go out and give the poor things extra water and feed....they must be exhausted!

the thoughts that title conjoured up.....

Birds in our garden show no interest in clean water, but will drink and bath in puddles etc

I guess that sitting on eggs hasn't helped their feathers either, poor little things - luckily they have a good 5 star hotel chez toi

I only put out rain water for the birds, they don't like tap water for some reason, even with rainwater they often bath in the sandy soil at the front of the house.

Blackbirds just finished their second brood about a fortnight ago and the male bird had feathers like a ragmans overcoat. 2 weeks down the line ands he is looking back on form, strutting his stuff and eating my tayberries.

Just been watching a mommy or daddy bluetit teaching a babby how to get peanuts out of a feeder.
            Devoted parents aren't they?!

Well once you have done courting and started a family there is a tendency to stop the press ups and turn to pies.
I have been watching the blackbirds in my garden where they have a nest, they really do work at raising the family, ferreting round in my compost for worms etc from sun up to sun down.
Would that some human parents were so devoted.

My mam and dad never rooted around in compost heaps to find me worms. Something for which I shall be eternally grateful.

I'll be childminding my grandsons during the coming summer holidays, I have a feeling I'm going to be a 'Ragged Grandad' by the end of week one, goodness knows what I'll be after 6 weeks.
Good thought about the water, I'll put some out for the poor wee things in the morning.
