I guess with such a mild winter we thought it would be great for wildlife, but constant wet weather can be as damaging as severe cold weather, so maybe that's the reason.

I've seen one or two, but barely any compared to last year. The aphids have been ridiculous on some of my fruit bushes though, to the point where I had to spray a couple of the new shoots to kill the aphids off before they ruined everything (I did of course wait until I'd finished picking off all the fruit). Last year ladybirds took care of most of them.
A lot less cabbage whites this year though, so swings and roundabouts...
Just to counterbalance, I had lots of ladybirds in spring in my back garden and they have been around all season although not in the vast numbers of last year. I haven't seen very many aphids though, so maybe the ladybirds have been constrained by lack of food this year.

I had loads earlier in the spring, then they hid away mating for a couple of months. I'm now finding baby alligators (the larvae) and cocoons in lots of places.
NB: I grow flowers all year round and I don't spray for greenfly. No greenfly, no ladybirds.
