What wasp is this?

Hi everyone just wondering what everyone makes of this, I've not seen a wasp like this before it looks as though it could brandish a flick knife at any moment very angry looking thing

It is a type of hover fly and harmless

No probs got all types of hover fly in garden some scare the life out of me angry looking boogers

Could be a drone fly, fatter bodied and bigger than a hover fly.

It's a Hornet mimic hoverfly. Totally harmless, no sting, just fascinating to watch. Got hundreds in my garden at work

They hoover up aphids and other pests, and pollinate flowers.

They are often on my runner bean flowers. Great little critters
