I have discovered a friendly hedgehog in my garden, which is fantastic (I thought there were less slugs and snails about). The problem is I have built raised beds in the garden. They are about 18 inches high. I would love to have the hedgehog have a rummage around these beds, but how would he
a) get up into them?
b) get out of them again.

P.S. the little frog rescued from the front garden is still in the back

You could play safe & put a couple of ramps in & out.

Thanks BM I will have to work out where to put them. There are 4 raised beds so will have to work out the best places for them.

If you have any logs lying around it may be more comfortable waking up & down them rather than planks of wood.

Don't know if this would work but if you could find out where it sleeps then you could pick it upon a night, place it in your bed (hope that it doesn't try getting out & falls off the wall...........)........then in the morning put it back in it's own bed.......................put some planks between the beds so it can mosey around them all............

An adult hedgehog can clamber into a full sized bucket so you don't need to make the 'ramps' too high.
I'd suggest a few logs around the outside too to clamber up.
But do be aware- They really don't want to be encouraged to eat just slugs and snails cos they are actually harmful to them ( they carry the lungworm parasite) )

Remember to leave out some water and a secluded place to hide during the day/winter, and you may find that it's your garden they choose to hibernate in!!

It's lovely to hear them shuffling and grunting around isn't it???

We used to get loads in our garden but have not seen one for about two years.....always fascinates me watching them root around.

Nothing locally has changed so perhaps they are in decline after 3 very harsh winters pre the last one, or they just find my garden boring now
