  • Queen bee rescue

A friend was in her bathroom recently and heard a loud buzzing noise.

A thorough search of the room proved fruitless, nothing in the bath, on the window or sill, tangled in the shower or ordinary curtains, on the ceiling or behind the door?

Listening more intently she was sure there was a peculiar "echo" to the buzzing. Tracking it down more carefully lead her to......

    .........the toilet cistern!

Lifting the lid revealed a rather drowsy but clearly peeved queen bee that was grateful to escape from the watery prison.

After giving her time to recover the queen made it out via an open bedroom window.

It is likely that the bee had entered the cistern via the overflow pipe, perhaps because she was exploring it for a possible nest site?

I saved a HUGE bumble bee today from a charity shop window. No way would she have found her own way out and I couldn't bear the thought of someone killing her so I got my sunglasses case out of my bag and put it over her and then gently closed it so she was trapped inside. I then carried her to the nearest flower bed (primulas & hyacinth) and she climbed out and onto the nearest flower

Just as well Bumble Bees are pretty reluctant to sting you because she was one big bee!!! A Buff-Tailed I think...probably a queen too as she was so big
If I'm not on the Grapevine I can usually be found here!....https://www.thecomfreypatch.co.uk/
