      Wow!

Was that a pesky pigeon on the menu?

Great sparrowhawk photos. Never seen one in our garden. Looks like it had a very hearty feast there!
LOVE growing food to eat in my little town back garden. Winter update: currently growing overwintering onions, carrots, lettuce, chard, salad leaves, kale, cabbage, radish, beetroot, garlic, broccoli raab, some herbs.

          Excellent photos madasafish!
You were lucky to have camera/phone at hand to capture the moment.!

Could do with borrowing your sparrow hawk around here..!! Sure the pesky pigeons are getting braver by the day - playing 'chicken' with my Toby dog and taunting him ...!!!

I dream of a better tomorrow, where chickens can cross the road and not be questioned about their motives....

              Thanks
              It 's a Canon SX280HS (s/h ex ebay).

Inspection of the head and feathers left behind proves breakfast was a sparrow..

We have sparrowhawks on the prowl - usually they catch pigeons/collared doves and eat them down the bottom of the garden but today this was outside the kitchen window from which photos were taken.

              20x optical zoom - need a steady hand - good thing I don't drink at 6.40am :-)

I was painting a garage door about 10 years ago and there was a loud bang. A sparrowhawk complete with pigeon crashed into the furthest away garage door and landed on the ground. The pigeon escaped and flew away. The sparrowhawk looked at me as if to say "it's your fault" and flew away as well.

We are about 1/4 mile from woods on the edge of Biddulph Grange Gardens..(National Trust) so see a range of birds.
