  • Blackbird nest

I have a blackbird nesting in my grapevine!

I'm a bit concerned that she has nested so high up (eight feet up actually) when everything I've read says they nest close to the ground and fledglings hop out of the nest long before they can fly!

When I look up from my egg chair (where I spend a ridiculous amount of time) I can see her looking back down at me.

I grow lots of berries but none are anywhere near ready yet.
I might put some dried mealworms out...only while I'm about though because I don't want to attract magpies or other predators.

I've been out to check on her with this gale we're having....she seems happy enough!
Daddy blackbird, on the other hand, has got the right ump. He's getting blown all over the place as he fetches and carries and 'guards'.
I can imagine she's asking for gherkins and ice cream..poor fella

Yesterday while gardening I went to my water butt near my kitchen window to find several teeny tiny blue tits on the floor, possibly not long out of the nest. I bid a hasty retreat with the dog in tow, later on I heard the mother calling and they were further down the path. I moved to a different spot in the garden to give her some peace but spotted one more on the ground later in another spot of the garden with Mum chirping in the tree above. I'm not sure if it was two different broods or one. Really made my day.

I've got a black bird nesting at the side of my shed in the middle of all my garden cains. She's on here second brood 5 hatched Sunday. She successfully reared 2 from her first brood. She nested there last year as well.

Down back of our house we have a blackbird nesting . Not sure if on its second brood as we have a baby one who keeps ginpving me a fright sunbathing on our lawn . I see it ..think oh no is it hurt..nope. Sunbathing .
Our dog keeps chasing it off thinking it's an idiot as next door and various others have a moggie.
OH thinks bird thinks it's safe as moggies don't come in because of dog.

We have loads of sparrows nesting under the tiles. When we first moved in we thought we had mice, then rats, then squirrels, so called in an expert. He couldn't find any traces of animals. I only noticed when sitting out in the garden saw them all disappearing under the tiles with beaks full of worms and stuff. I love watching them come and go, but the are really noisy in the mornings.

Here's mine yesterday one landed on my plant pot where I was gardening. At that age they really aren't worried about us or the dogs. I always keep my phone handy ...my edging the border with string also had to be abandoned!

Love the photos. I never have my phone on me it's so annoying. I got one of the huge phones this time as eyesight is defiantly going, just can't get it in my pocket, so never have it on me at the right time

I have two teenage sons Bal - I get a response if I ring their phones and they know they can get hold of me when I'm lost in my GH. They've often come looking but not found me
