  • Propagating flowering ivy

I read somewhere a while ago that the Victorians used to propagate flowering ivy, as if it is done from the flowering part, it stays as a small flowering shrublet. Obviously this would be really useful in a wildlife garden but I'm not sure how/when is best to take cuttings and Google doesn't seem to be able to help. Has anyone tried this or know the best way to propagate the flowering parts?

Never heard of a well behaved ivy.

If you want a non-climbing ivy leafed shrub try fatshedera. I've got a variegated one that's been in for a couple of years and it's nearly reached sub-sub-shrub size!https://www.rhs.org.uk/Plants/51972/...-lizei/Details

      Thanks.
Does yours flower much? I need it for the flowers for a specific bee (Ivy bee)

Not yet but it is in a poor position.

I've seen better ones with loads of ivy-like flowers like the pic on the RHS link.

I believe ivy can be grafted onto fatshedera to give a weeping standard.

Just stumbled on this, which may be what you want.

          Hedera helix 'Arborescens', Tree Ivy

Should be easy to source cuttings for free.
