We are lucky to have a young Humpback Whale in the area near us, rare on the East coast of Scotland, it arrived local to us around 5 days ago. I've been going up to see it most days and it is usually a long way out, over a mile. Today me and my wife were sat on the sand dunes looking well out to sea, when suddenly there it was, less than a hundred from the shore line in very shallow water, just swimming along, awesome is an over used word these days, but this was truly majestic.

It's raining heavily just now, but I intend to make the most of this visit and leave the garden to fend for it's self a bit, this could be a once in a life time sort of thing. I actually felt up lifted seeing it, I wonder what I could do in return, maybe boycott Japanese and Norwegian products?(kinda tricky as my car is from Japan).

they are spectacular and very good reminders of just how puny and inconsequential we humans are.
a common sight off mozambique where I used to fish, such awesome gentle giants, though their habit of tail slapping is something to keep in mind when snorkelling around them, getting boinked by several tons of tail could ruin your day, even if unintentional
