  • Stoats in the Brambles.

Blackbirds were going scatty. Alarm calls all round. Went to see what was what and meet a stoat running down the path next to the Polytunnel. OH was on other side of the "ora" allotment size patch and there was one there too. Quite funny watching them running back and for, following the vole trails and running straight towards us. Seems they were hunting across the patch of brambles, nettles and all other sorts of cover. Saw us and off the went like a shot.

    No picture. Sorry

    Was just so unexpected.

Lovely things to see - excellent for keeping down rabbits and rats.

Have you got chickens? If so you may need to be extra careful at looking them in etc. Stoats will pick them off one by one.
I did have a weasel for sometime a few years back, they are absolutely viscious! It's mother had died, I hand reared him and released him but I fear he didn't repay me with kindness!

I guess being so small they have to be vicious to survive.

            It is a stoat.
Couple weeks ago, similar noise in garden and looked out to see a bunny being dragged down my front lawn. Didn't see the tail, so thought it was a weasel. Then went driving to shops and it seemed to have a suicide mission . Car via animal head to head. It did a left turn and saw its tail. Black 3rd.

Again today - Left turn and tail.

Stoats tend to be small rodent eaters...

Weasels - Small birds and chicks (They took a brood on bantams. Same story... Weasel running down garden wall with 3 week old chick in its mouth.
