  • Can I put.....

    pet hair in the compost?

Someone previously mentioned that you can put your own hair in and the contents of your hoover bag but I'm looking after my friend's dog next week and she sheds like no-ones business, so I was wondering if I could put it all in the compost?

Also, got a new dalek the other day and a new kitchen caddy from recyclenow.com so I'm well on my way!

    TIA

I don't see why not everdream, don't forget to watch Gardeners world tonight for other tips on composting.
I sadly am on night duty tonight so have to get OH to video it for me, will watch it with breakfast in bed before i go off to sleep tomorrow morn!

Good luck with your composting, it's totally addicitve, mine has become a passion, much to the disgust of most of my non gardening friends!

          Thanks for your replies!

Glad to know that I can bung it all in the daleks - it's either that or take up knitting and make loads of jumpers from all the hair! lol

btw, the dog's a gorgeous bull mastiff called Mooch :-)

The contents of your vac cleaner bag may not be bio degradable, you just have to watch what you pick up in it. Same goes for washing machine and dryer. You don't want to find balls of synthetic fibres in your compost.

The synthetic bits would be miniscule, surely not worth worrying about? My hoover dust goes in, used kitchen roll, belly button fluff ....

Can't see any synthetics getting into hoover - but can see from tumble-fluff!!

Any other uses for it?? I've always wondered... its clean, its soft and its useless!!

Maybe gather it together for long enough and you could use it to insulate part of your attic? Like the sheep's wool insulation now in vogue.....

Actually although I think it would take quite awhile to get enough to insulate my loft... I could insulate the chooks house with it!!

                            How clever... thanks for tip!
