    Hi all,

    My first post on here.

    cheers

Hello and welcome to the vine Peter. Can you post a picture or describe these specks in a bit more detail please. That will help us help you.
    Happy Gardening,

Got any pictures? Or a more accurate description? "Specks" is a bit vague - how big are they? Are they round, clear or opaque? Are they evenly spread throughout the compost or in clusters?

        My guess is ant eggs!

I was thinking possibly slug or snail eggs. Slug and snail eggs are round, ant eggs are sort of oblong/oval.

Thanks for the replies. Had a really closer look at them today. Thanks to the picture I have attached and it seems that they are small bugs.

Urgg! Not that I'm any authority but gardeners Question Time had something similar mentioned a few months ago and stated it might be snail or lug larvae.

                  Good luck!

If you spread the compost on the ground the birds will have a feast!

Hi Peter, they certainly look like some kind of larvae, they look very clean & gleaming white anyway, I'd try Flum's idea though & spread them out for the birds. From the pic. your compost looks a bit wet, maybe that could be encouraging something to breed in there?

Let the birds at them!! And yes, your compost does look a bit soggy. Have you turned it at all?

Splendid idea, the birds get fed while getting rid of them for you...urrggh they're so disgusting (sorry folks!), it would make me so depressed just looking at them.

                            Could be...

Not a brilliant photo, but looking at the antenna of your bugs I'm thinking its the Nymph stage of the Vine Weevil. (the stage after larvae, just before black beetle)

Then you DEFINITELY want them eaten up. They'll kill plants by eating the roots. Here, birdie, birdie, birdie!
