Turf in Compost

I dug up my lawn to make way for new beds in my garden. But the clumps of turf peeled away fairly neatly with the digger and I didn't bother to shake the soil off the grass, just chucked them all in the compost bin . Besides this isn't the main compost bin, I have another one for filling all of the kitchen waste. This one though is filled with a mixture of mostly garden soil (with turf) and some well rotted compost from last year. I'm just wondering how long it will be before the soil will be ready to be used as top soil or even compost although I'm in no hurry. My reason for doing is pure laziness . Is anybody as lazy as me?

That's not lazy!
That is what you do with old turf
I wouldn't have bothered with using the compost though- just layered the turf upside-down in a pile and leave it to rot.
Takes about a year.

I coverd the back 1/2 of my garden in oct with Weed Control Fabric, and last month I just turned the top over and dug it in, replaced the Weed Control Fabric, now have all, put raised beds in, my plot ready for planting when frost is over.

Put my turfs in a 'dalek' last year. Ants moved in and made a terrific colony. I have just emptied said dalek and found lots of lovely fine soil.......

when i got my lottie there was a huge stack of upside down grass which has crumbled down to a fab fine soil with very few clumps in it so seems like youve done the right thing without knowing it, well done you

Thank you all for reassuring replies. So what I did wasn't cheating then . I normally tend to shake of the soil from the grass before putting in the compost but this time I just didn't have the heart.
