  • Compost help needed

    hi guys

I've got two dalek bins now empty. Yesterday I went to collect my 10 bags of spent mushroom compost from the caves and as soon as I got there I realised a) They were bigger than I expected and b) it was not at all composty more like straw and compost with white crusty bits.

Managed to cram them into the car and decided that I would dig two bags into my raised bed for brassicas and legumes (is that OK). But what to do with the others.

My thoughts were that I could compost it in the two empty bins, add some well rotted donkey and goat poo (it always has lots of worms) and keep adding my usual household waste and garden trimmings.

Has anyone tried this before? Will my idea work? If not what can I do with the stuff. I've nowhere to store it, and dont want to use as a mulch on flower beds as frankly it looks a bit messy.

Currently its at the back of the garage (darkish) so hoping for a few nice mushrooms at least (should I sprinkle the bags with water).

BTW-picked off 6 mushrooms this morning and fried with some bacon, lovely
    so all was not lost!

    Help please.

    Hi Frances!
Got some free mushrooms on mine too, yum!
I got 6 bags which I have used on the bed I,m going to put my brassicas in. It looks better now it's been damped down by a bit of rain.
It's not bad for 50p a bag is it?

Imagination is everything, it is a preview of what is to become.

It should work. Put them in a sunny spot: speeds rotting.

I put garden compost in old rubbish bins to rot down overwinter with added turkey dung and it rots boootifoolly.

      :-)
