  • Wormery + Paraffin heater advice please

    Hello all

I have 3 worm farms which I put in the greenhouse over winter.

I also have one of those double chimney paraffin heaters to keep the frost out of the greenhouse.

I have just had a nasty thought

Are there any adverse effects on the worms with the parrafin fumes?

    Any advice greatfully received.

    Kind regards.

Wouldn't have thought you'd have a problem but why have you put your wormeries in the greenhouse? I did for a couple of years but now I don't bother (you can wrap in bubble wrap if you want to add protection) and the worms keep going fine - it's much more convenient for me as it means that I can leave it outside by my back door.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

      Thank you for the advice.

I had heard that they would be ok outside over winter, and if I remember rightly I did leave them out last year but I think I was just being a bit fussy this year as my mum got herself one of those 'wheelie bin' stylie murder chamber worm factory things and I was witness to one of the worst smelling gruesome massacres possible after she ...err ...well ...buggered it up basically

Mine are still going fine though, so I may stop wrapping them in cotton wool, wrap them up in bubble wrap and send them out to play in the fresh air!
