  • wormery help needed.

i have been very lucky to have been given a can of worms wormery from a fellow freecycler. she has also given me some worm treat and lime mix.
i have read somewhere that worms can be bought from local fishing shops but when i enquired aboutred or tiger was told they are only sold in tiny tubs of 15 a time. a wiggly 500g contains 1000+ apparently so very confused.
i have the bin but no contents, is there a cheaper way of getting it up and running than wiggly wigglers does anyone know as dont want to get wrong stuff n then have to pay double to get it right.
    thanx

Don't make the mistake I did. In all the blurb on wormeries it says you can even use the contents of the vacuum cleaner bag but when I tried this I murdered all my worms. Reason, I have a cat and dog and of course I use flea control preparations, definitely not good for worms.
I am certain that the day my boat comes in, I'll be at the airport.

Think you need to bite the bullet and get the 1000 worms, it will be easier in the long run.
From someone who has spent hours picking worms out her compost heap....

You can buy worms reasonably cheaply and I would definitely recommend you getting 1000 for a start and the proper ones for wormeries rather than common or garden worms. I know it sounds like another expense but it's worth it to get it going and they'll breed like mad when you get it going properly. If you skimp with worms to start with then it will take a lot longer to get going.

Re the vac contents, have added some with no worries but it's very important not to add too much of anything to start with or they'll be overloaded, it'll go bad and you'll have to start again.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
