yes can be used on compost heap and i also using mine in a bean trench, you can also use the small pooh pellets like chicken pellets.
p.s any manure that comes from a veg eating animal is deemed to be safe but not from a cat or dog as they contain parasities.

Do you mean hay or straw? (they eat hay but not straw). Save your money ... shred up newspapers for bedding instead of buying straw. It can be composted.
The pigs will still like to have hay to eat though, esp. in the winter.

        thanks very much,

they have hay to eat and bed on as straw is too hard and may catch their eyes (so the book told me lol), i will use it all them, recycling at its best i think, i forgot about putting the newspaper in the composter too.

Great, i will have compost to die for next year - thanks very much.

Yes, it all composts lovely... some of the best composts I've had were when I've has rabbits and guinea pigs. But do balance it out with other stuff too like kitchen waste (that'd be what's left after your guinea pigs..)

If you use newpaper shredding like two_sheds said, I'd add that to the heap too

When I kept guinea pigs I found that putting a layer of the wood based cat litter was very good for soaking up urine and preventing smells. It composted down well too.
