sand +compost-mix

what kind of sand is best to use in my garden .
will building sand be ok or is it to salty .
im using it to mix with compost to grow carrots in .my soil is bit clayey

I believe sharp sand is what you're after (rougher and grittier). My rasied beds are clay soil and I dug in mulch and sharp sand to sort it out. Much easier to work with now.

I'd just finished building a patio and renovating our old house so had some of it lying around (2tonnes!).

You can buy it by the bag or loose from builders merchants or by the bag from DIY places like B&Q, depending on how much you need. I also noticed it in garden centres in small bags, but that's the expensive way to go.

Building sand can be contain limestone though, at least thats what the builders merchant i rang said. So i got mine from b&q, it must be sharp sand otherwise you'll make your clay worse.

Depends what you want to do. You can add Sharp Sand, Compost 50/50 and spread it in your lawn as a top dressing. Or add Hortucorial Sharp Sand to Compost for growing on Seedlings. Hort sand is washed to get all the clay out. But it costs more.
