Hi, I always thought the B&Q own brand compost was pretty decent as a multipurpose one so got 2 80 kg bags as usual at the start of the year. Oh dear, what total rubbish. It looked and felt like wool. And was unseivable as well. Never again. On the plus side I went to a local small garden centre and found some great compost for slightly less so that was a win.

B&Q compost 2023

B & Q are currently doing 2 types of multi purpose compost: Verve and GoodHome. Last year I picked up a bag of GoodHome (by accident) and nothing would grow in it. This year I've bought a couple of bags of the Verve, which used to be good when it had peat in. I don't like it much but then I'm struggling with all the non-peat ones I've tried. I'm seiving it before use with a bit of added fertilizer (BFB) and some perlite, and at least most things aren't dying if I'm careful with watering. So that's something.

The Enriched version of the GoodHome compost was actually a best buy last year. I bought three bags, and it did really well for me. The normal version was apparently fairly poor, though.
It wasn't a best buy this year, though, as apparently it has been reformulated for 2023 and so they haven't had time to test the new one yet.

I bought about a dozen bags of tomato compost last year, reduced to 50p each. I know they always say not to keep bags for years, but I'm sure it will be fine. I can mix with my own compost if need be, but I only have a dustbin of that, so it's precious.Mostly flowers, some fruit and veg, at the seaside in Edinburgh.
