Advice Wanted

Hello Folks,

I have 3 dalek compost bins at the bottom of my garden in various states containing various contents. As I’ve had difficulty turning them I thought I might tip them all out, mix all together, and then refill.

Does this sound a good idea?

I have one of those compost bins but I have this compost turning tool I use that you just poke in the compost and pull it up. I would say if you want to empty them all, I would put the most recent stuff at the bottom, then the rest can be mixed up and re-filled.

I'd tip them out. Put the mostly rotted stuff in one [unless it can come out and go straight onto beds]. Then the next nearly but not quite rotten stuff in another. Then, the fresh stuff in the third.

Then - get a system, so that you don't have to do it again!

You could always dig a trench or if you have raised beds, dig out the soil into wheelbarrows and then put in a layer from your compost bin in the bed or trench, then cover with the soil you've just removed.

I would push them over mix up all the contents and then shovel it back in to one bin or two bins. The air will help it compost much quicker.

I would then start again with one bin (adding some of the compost from the others to get it going). Then keep adding and adding to it. Once its full the other stuff will be ready.

I have Daleks too, and the easiest thing is to lift the whole thing up and off ... mix up the compost with a fork, and load it back in the Dalek.
