I am going away for a few days to the seaside!!

I have heard of seaweed fertilisers and was wondering...

if I gathered any seaweed washed up on the beach, and put it straight into my compost bin on my return, would this be beneficial? and would it work?

Or does anyone have any other ideas?

    Hi

I've moved your thread out of Growing Techniques into an appropriate board.

    Many Thanks

      Oggie,

I was jealously perusing the other plots at our allotments the other day - and noticed one of them had kelp/seweed draped all over it. I had a good yarn with the chap and he'd simply got bags of the stuff from the beach, rinsed as much salt off as possible, and just laid it all over the ground to dry. Once it becomes brittle he then just turns it into the ground.

Its NPK values are pretty low, but it has useful trace elements and its an excellent soil conditioner.

u can make a liquid feed of it by leaving it in a bucket of water for a few months
