How to make potting compost!!

I would like to make my own potting compost for my little seeds to grow in.

We have lots of well rotted compost and manure, we also have very well rotted leaf mold.

But I have heard there is quite a skill to it, as I would like to have seedling come up well I will bow down to the professionals and continue to buy if it is not very practical.
I just wanted to know if it was possible and if others out there have been successful in doing this.

I suppose I have this idea, we grow just about everything ourselves but we still buy in the compost for the seedlings. Everything else we produce ourselves and it feels great to do it this way but also we know the exact source of where it all came from and the "purity" of it, (if that makes sense)!!

I tried it: followed all instructions. A waste of time: lots of work BUT I could not destroy all the weed seeds so I got lots of weeds with my plants..Plus we ahve clay soil so kept getting bits of clay in it.

Easier to buy 200 litres at a time of readymade...

I use sived Grneral purpose compost...I dont think that its worth the time to make your own.
