  • Where can I find a lot of cheap compost?

I am desperate for a large amount of compost to keep my crop going but money is tight til the end of the month. Anyone know of places that are selling it at a great price?

      Thanks Shirl

I just checked their website and it is less than £4 a 75 ltr bag, so must be onto a winner!!!

B&Q do multipurpose for about 7 quid a bale (120 litres). Buy 3 bales and get 2 quid off.

        It's not peat-free though

Many Local Authoritys do their own Compost. In Croydon it is free from the tip.

As others have said, check with your local authority or, if you have one, your local allotment association. Our LA has just had two 'free compost' days and the allotment association is talking about having 20 tonnes delivered to our site if they can afford the transport cost.

We're too far for it to do you any good but I got from a local garden cetre, 5 x 60l bags of Yorkshire Gardening Supplies multipurpose peat-free compost for £10. Brilliant stuff, the best peat-free I've ever used. It has a slight wee-wee smell when the bag is first opened, but hey, nitrogen is nitrogen!

Just don't go to Homebase lol- well expensive for compost, only bought it from there because i didn't have time to go else where!

Certainly worth shopping around if you have time- i've heard B&Q do good offers.
