For smaller quantities Lidl are doing 30L grow bags next week for £1.20 each. I don't know what the quality of their stuff is like but it looks to be a good deal.

i have to say that the Wickes compost is brillliant.
no unidentifiable solid lumps, no rocks, soft, crumbly, moist
          blimey

I always work it out per litre to make comparisons easy.

Your examples work out at 3.78 pence/litre in Wickes and 3.33 pence/litre for the peat free stuff. For peat free, that sounds like a very good buy.

I generally try and get it for around 4p or less per litre.

I bought some peat-free MP compost from B&Q recently, was more like bark chippings, ended up just using it to earth up my tatties
Consider the daffodil. And while you're doing that, I'll be over
                  here, looking through your stuff.

I find that it is a lottery they must all buy from the same plant and have it put in their own bags.

Some times it is good other times rubbish.

Hope you don't mind me asking but was that in the Colchester Wickes?!

I've just checked the Wickes national website and I can't find anything like that price.

If it's in store though it will be well worth me borrowing the car club car and nipping over there to get some!

                            Hi Vikki,

Actually it was the Chelmsford one, but i'll bet you can phone the Colchester one and see if they have the same offer - if they don't perhaps they'll match it!
I work Chelmsford way and so popped in.

                            Good luck and report back!

Its always worth trying Homebase (especially) and possibly B&Q or Focus and ask an assistant roaming around in their Gardening Department if they have any damaged bags of Compost. I bought 4 Growbags from Homebase for £1 each which were obviously damaged by a "bad forklift driver" which normally retailed at £3.99 each.
They don't always have the damaged bags on show, so it is always worth a try - and I am sure they are glad to be rid of them as well.
