    Potato tops

    I appologise in advance, I'm sure this must have been answered more than once, but I've had a look round and can't find the answer!!

    Should potato tops, if not blighted, be put in compost bin??

      No. Tomato and Potato tops MUST be burned. They are the same family and even thought they may not show signs of blight they may have it. The Blight spores will live thrugh the composting process. You may be able to give them to your worms but dont compost them.

        Ok, thanks. I thought that was the case, but wasn't sure if healthy ones were ok to put on. My brain is turning to a sieve!

          I must have got lucky then. I've composted them for 35 years!

            Have you had blight every year though.
            My phone has more Processing power than the Computers NASA used to fake the Moon Landings

              I'm sure I heard you could compost tomato prunings. Hope so cause I have been. Must admit though wasn't sure about tatties.

                Only ever had blight once - at my old allotment. Didn't get it the following year.
