I always mix with grass cuttings. Infact I add them to the compost bin as the browns. Otherwise the compost usually always has too much of the nitrogen rich stuff which makes it all smell..
I find the leaves ideal for composting. I usually have a 9 month turn around on my compost. The leaves rot down really quickly when put in with the wet stuff.
However the trick is to shred them. Otherwise they will compact and not rot down. I have a lawn mower with wheels. Set it to the highest cut so the lawn doesnt get touched. Space them out and them run over them with the mower.
As long as the leaves are really dry they will get sucked up into the collection bin. If wet they will clog it up and it will go all over the grass. So ensure they are dry. Couple of bags shreds down into 1/2 a bag. Once they compost theres hardly anything left! But its still worth the effort I guess for the end result.
