I've remembered now why it spread so much in the early days - as a novice I cut back the main plant at the end of the growing season and threw it all on the compost heap, felt very pleased with myself, sat back and waited for my wonderful compost. It was only a couple of years later I realised I'd been putting all the seed heads into the compost - no wonder it spread so well!

The bees love the flowers so much it sometimes can be an ordeal picking it!
I grabbed a clump last year and got stung for my troubles!
This year I have a shaded area next to the compost heap that I am going to grow ALL my comfrey.
Its such a bladdy thug if you don't give it a bed of its own.........bit like OH really! My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order
to present to him vegetables and all beautiful flowers.- Offerings of Thutmose III to Amon-Ra (1500 BCE)

I've got both both types. I think the bocking one is supposed to be higher in nutrients as well as sterile.
I got mine from ebay too. I find private sellers on ebay are usually very reasonably priced.
I actually brought 5 bits of tuber, but cut them up into loads more and they all grew.

Once again thanks for all your tips. Think I saw some at my friends plot last year, but there is never anyone there at the time we go to ask about it. Does it look similar to borage?
