I was at my local garden centre today about to oik another £5 worth into the trolley, when it suddenly struck me I was only buying it to plant some peas in guttering for a final sowing, and in that case my few peas would have cost me £5 - so being a tight wad - I promptly oiked it out again and decided I'd direct sow for FREE, although others I've direct sown have put on a poor show in comparison to the gutter method'May your cattle never wander and your crops never fail'

Sorry, couldn't resist!
I start peas off in modules. It stops the mice gettting to them. I sow them soon after they've germinated though, before the root gets too long.
