How much have you spent on compost?

I've been reckoning up and so far I've spent £30 Is this unusual? Granted I grow all my toms/aubs/chillis peppers in morrisons tubs and use it for modules, plus the baskets etc, not that I begrudge it you understand, it's my hobby.

Have you been on to your local council? surely they would/should be passing compost, via the stuff WE all put in our green bins, a chap few doors from me told me where we can 'claim' ours in st helens, dont know if they would mind you asking or if its any good! As I only heard about this few days ago myself

I get through about 3 bales a year: £18. Although this year I could only get small bags of peat-free, so more like £30

Ooh, was wondering about this expense the other day as I loaded another 70 litre bag into the boot. But compared to your £30 cupcake, my £13 doesn't seem bad at all

I've spent £14 but I need to another bale so that will be another £6 ish, then I've sieved 3 bags worth of my own compost

I was at my local garden centre today about to oik another £5 worth into the trolley, when it suddenly struck me I was only buying it to plant some peas in guttering for a final sowing, and in that case my few peas would have cost me £5 - so being a tight wad - I promptly oiked it out again and decided I'd direct sow for FREE, although others I've direct sown have put on a poor show in comparison to the gutter method

I start peas off in modules. It stops the mice gettting to them. I sow them soon after they've germinated though, before the root gets too long.

about £20, but this is a fresh start year. i would hope to halve that next year

About £20/30 but I'm growing in a lot of tubs so it's not just pots for seedlings to fill.
