John Innes No 2

My OH bought a bag of this compost for his own plants (B&Q multipurpose was apparently not good enough for them ), but it seems very heavy, like clay. It has big stones in it, and seems much worse than the aforementioned B&Q compost I gto for my seedlings.

Is it normally like this? Is it a good thing?

Yes it contains a more than 50% loam so it will appear like soil. It's for general potting up of plants into bigger pots (such as house plants). I wouldn't use it for seedlings.

I prefer to use John Innes compost but it shouldn't have stones in it. I would take it back and complain.
