Well rotted? Not quite.

I've just had a couple of tons of "well rotted" manure dumped on the plot.
The problem is, not all of it has that nice earthy smell.

There's a lot of black, a lot of dark brown, but nothing that looks straight from the horse's... *ahem*.

It came from a muck heap about the size of two big semi-detached houses and about 8 feet deep, so some of it has had no air for about 2 years.

Some smells nice and earthy, others have a sort of sharp/horsey smell to it.

So - what if anything can it be used on?
How can I get it to rot down properly as quickly as possible?

Sounds to me as if it is well rotted. How it looks and smells depends on what went into it. Black and dark brown is how I get it and if as you say its from 8ft down hopefully all the dormant weed seeds will have died.
