  • fresh horse manure

I have been offered some of the above,i know it can be stored, but my query is,if i put it straight onto the soil and cover it up over winter, will it be alright to plant into next spring, barring all the root veggies,
and is it horse or cow that has the most weeds as it does not process the weed seeds,
a friend has just got a horse, and thought of me,
    many thanks

Horses are bad converters, so you will get weed seeds. However, if you put it on the soil, then cover with paper or cardboard, you'll solve the problem. It's free, take it. If you're really lucky, your mate may even deliver (cheek), rather than have to pay someone to take it away.

        No problem, Hon!

I have a large double compost cage, and I add mine to that, after leaving it to sweat in plastic sacks for six months. It's usually like tar with bits in, by then. It gets mixed with grass mowings, hedge prunings, shredded paper and all sorts of stuff. One day I'll use it!

          OK, here's one for you.
Just put some fresh horse manure down and next doors dog is eating it!
Will dogs eat rotted stuff or do they prefer the fresh?

I doubt it'd eat the rotted down horse manure - it's like compost when properly rotted down.

My dog (when we had him) used to eat fresh sheep poo given the chance. Lovely.
