Dog poo wormery

Has anybody tried one of these dog poo wormeries Pplpage :: Original Organics
or any other composting device for disposing of doggy dos? With the changeover to fortnightly waste collections in my area I find the storage of poo for 2 weeks is quite objectionable! How do you dispose of it?

Hi Rusty Lady, I'm reluctant to flush it as I've heard dog poo can block the pipes and I have lots of bends in my outlets! Also I flush with rainwater so every flush is precious.

And for Taff, the short answer is NO. None nearby only small bins on lamp posts which are usually full of burger cartons and ciggies.

How big is your dog/dogs? It's no more likely to block the pipes than human poo

I open the manhole at the side of the house and bung it in there then flush the loo indoors,we have a chocolate lab on a high fibre diet and get a builders bucket or so off the lawn every 3-4 days and have never had a blockage yet

A builders bucket? And I thought I had problems with my two. Thanks for the reassurance. If you can flush away that lot then I may be in with a chance!!

I keep mine bagged and binned at the bottom of the garden in its own bin. the day before bin day i carry it (through the kitchen...ugh!) to the bin. I do worry about giving something which is essentially bio degradable a 100 year life span tho. the bog isnt an option as it means carrying it up on a shovel through the house or carrying soiled poo bags back and we dont have a man hole in the garden.thankfully our litter bins accept bagged dog waste so a lot of the walk poo goes in those depending where we go. I bin an awful lot tho and its vile. As Im an avid freecycler/recycler dog poo and nappies are the bulk of my rubbish so its grim in the warm weather.

Imagine if we went back to the 'good old days' for just one day. We never took our eyes off the pavement when walking to school. Little piles in the gutter was as good as it got.

We use re-usable nappies, they're great. Pretty grim dealing with a messy poo, but bar the initial outlay (which was £100) the nappies we have go from newborn -> 4 years old. My wife regularly 'swaps' some too, or sells some and buys from others - there's a good, active real-nappy community around us. the main reason though, bar the money saving was the amount of waste disposables create and how long they take to break down - not to mention the amount of trees used!

I may be wrong, but aren't biodegrable bags worse than normal bags? I'm sure I read/heard this?

I'm confused (bet you didn't know that). How does using a re-usable nappy save on trees? Wouldn't the bark be a bit rough on their poor little botties? As for the splinters....
