The reason that you should not put cat or gog poo in the compost is that both the animals carry worms that can affect humans in a very nasty way.

I make sure that I remove the poo from the cat litter tray and put the urine soaked litter in the compost. The litter must of course ne bio-degradable, I use the wood chippings from the chain saw when I have them but if it is the ordinary cat litter it just has to be binned.

I have seen my moggies using my allotment although I've never found any little "packages" and they generally go for the (wood based) cat litter. The lumps go in the bin and the rest in the compost.

We have a few feral tomcats in the area so I think my mogs are not advertising their presence.

          Hi,

My cats are outdoor moggies but I have cat proof fencing around the garden so they have to go somewhere and I find most it! Since they are wormed and don't eat anything except cat food perhaps I could compost their waste?

          Thanks,

          Me & the Mogs

Ditto - should be fine, although I've never had ants before this year...

I think we are going to have truble with ants this year cos we havent realy had a bad winter to kill them off
I had 2 ants nests in our spud beds we have 3 spud beds on the 2nd plot
Had to put ant powder down
thought about boiling water but we would have had boild spud
dont think MrsD would have liked that

I have a compost bin in which I put all the veg peelings and shredded documents which is doing very well except for the ants nest - I will try the addition of wee.
My query is what to do with the other organic waste I produce namely old cat food and cat poo (well obviously I don't produce them personally but I have to deal with it!). Everywhere says never to put them in a compost but never gives a reason - can anyone answer that for me?
Would they be able to go in a wormery?

I do hope someone can answer this.

Whatever you do don't put pet poo in your wormery - if your pets get wormed some of the worming chemicals will pass straight through and kil the worms in your wormery
