    I haven't grown any carrots from the sprouting tops. After my bin was taken over by potato roots i don't take the chance and remove them as soon as i see they're surviving. I'll leave them in future and see what happens.

    Well, veggie peelings could include potato peelings which can grow living roots in a compost bin. That's why i commented.
