What about the poor fella who fell down the unmarked manhole ...Good idea though. I still rate chicken wire tho....easy to clean and if not chuck it on the bonfire for a couple of minutes ....all done!

Canes are used for beans and twiggy sticks for peas or that netting that you find at roadworks. It works a treat and is tough enough to be reused.
Do you ask, or do you just take it?

I LOVE turning my compost. It's the thought that it's all free, I suspect!

Pea netting is such a bore, in fact netting of any kind really - it takes ages to put it out, it inevitably doesn't get cleaned properly, and then gets dumped in a heap in the shed complete with dead foliage still attached, and when you go to get it out the next year it takes a week to un-knot it all.......arghh!!

I'm growing some almost leafless self supporting peas this year to do away with the netting problem, and i've not netted my onion sets liike before and the birds haven't been a problem - i've only got the brassicas to worry about now

I don't like turning the compost, so i consider that to be a 'manly' job and persuade the OH to do it for me!

Weeding is a chore too - especially when i've left it far too long and the weeds are like trees
There's vegetable growing in the family, but I must be adopted
                  Happy Gardening!

I NEVER reuse pea netting! It goes down to the dump with all the bits on it having clipped everything off at ground level. Then I just dig everything in.

Must admit I'm with JennieA on this one, always feel a bit guilty about just binning it but it's such a pain to clear it all off. Am trialling my peas just using a twig arrangement of support this year in the hope it's less annoying!

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I was putting the new netting on my fruit cage yesterday - was surprisingly straight forward except that the clips they supplied didnt go round the poles so I used black cable ties instead.

                        Sorted!

Like you Alison, I'm going without the net this year and trying a network of string!
