They have now - last year they collected the green sacks for free, then they thought about giving out bins and charging the people to take the bins of green waste away, then they went back to the free green sack collection. And now today i have found they are still sticking with the green sacks, but they are now charging you around £2 per sack, in my opinion i dont think that will last, as people will just either put their green waste in the black bin.

But what gets me is that councils are supposed to be encouraging people to recycle and reduce landfill waste, at the moment people complain about recycling for free, so its never going to work if they start to charge people to do it!!!

      Rant over lol

Jeez that's dire ^^^^^^,we get green wheelie bins (1 per house (although you can apply for more (either half or full size)) & they are emptied for free

I live in 2 counties, each with different policies! In one I can have 2 big green wheelie bins that are emptied fortnightly without charge; in the other I have to buy measly little greenbags that rip if you put anything thorny in them. Don't know how much they are as I refuse (get it?) to pay for them - so what can't be composted goes on a bonfire.

Well, not for free: you pay for it through council tax.

We don't have green waste bins, but I wouldn't use one anyway: it all goes in the garden in one form or another (compost or bonfire)

Splitting hairs a bit there ,if this comes up again I shall be more correct & say ... green waste bins are supplied & emptied fortnightly by my local council at no extra charge on my council tax.

If you were supplied with recycle bins & you didn't use it would you actually get a refund from your council tax or would it just be lost money ?

Strangely it makes economical sense for me to use council waste disposal to remove my hedge cuttings given that council tax is an unavoidable bill, other than that I would have to pay for the electricity to shred it to get it down to a compostable state, which would be a far greater bill than buying a few bags of MPC.

No, I wasn't trying to be adversarial.
I wanted to point it out because there will be people jumping up and down that they don't get a 'free' green waste collection: if they did, some other council service would have to be cut or the bills would have to increase

No, but then it's swings and roundabouts: all of us use some services more or less than other ones. It can't be a pick & mix approach to council tax, unfortunately

I'm demanding more cycle lanes & dog waste bins instead of green bins for every householder.

I went past that field again yesterday, there's a big black charcoal spot where the poofy kablooey stuff was, so there really was a fire
Same here for council tax...in Wales [a particular part anyway] absolutely everything gets recycled, plastic[all kinds], tins, glass, green waste. They all go in the same bags that are provided by the council, [hopefuly not mixed though] and they all get collected for no extra on the council tax - see what I did there?
