  • Fir cones

This time of the year I'm scooping up the fir cones on the paths and drive by the bucket load! Is it possible to add them to the compost bin or is that not a good idea? Any other ideas what to do with them?

They burn well! Potash for free.

I work with children and use them as a good intro to feeding the birds. We use vegetable fat in a block and mix it with wild bird seed. They spread it into the nooks and crannies of the cones and then hang them up to feed the birds.
Great way to get rid of all my cones!

Spray them silver, loop of thread around the top, and donate them to a local school for their Xmas/Summer fair!
