Best place to buy raised bed soil...

Hi there,

can anyone give me any pointers on where to buy the best stuff to fill my raised bed?

Am not 100% sure of the cheapest way to do it...

Can't really help you I'm afraid noidea with the soil, but here is a link to another thread with ideas for filling a raised bed which might cut down on the amount of soil you need.

Have a look in your local Yellow Pages or similar for Top Soil, or in your local paper may have a gardening section with adverts. There are usually a few local suppliers, and they sell different grades of soil. These are the people to ring if you need big quantities. Otherwise, CPL Distribution have just started delivering bagged (Westland i think) topsoil, compost etc. Or your local garden centre will stock bagged topsoil if you don't need a lot.

Also, before you buy your soil, check it is actually the right stuff, i nearly bought 4 ton of acid soil, no worms in it either,take an handful home and test it first, it is'nt cheap.

You might also want try your local amenity site - ours sells soil conditioner at �2.00 a bag

My council compost all the green waste they collect and then sell the compost off in trailer full quanties for �10. You have to go and pick it up and we often have to add some lime to it but the stuff is brilliant and very very cheap. Maybe there is something like that in your area
