  • Best way to join waterbutts together?

Now we've had some rain it's filled the first of my waterbutts.
I bucketed it into the other one yesterday but I need to join them together for future to save the hassle.
Anyone got any suggestions? They're plastic barrels.

Are they next to each other? If so then it's a doddle, you can buy plastic hose kits at B&Q etc to link them hydraulically so that the first one fills up and then weirs over via the link pipe into the second butt. If they're further apart then it becomes more difficult.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

You can use a piece of guttering attached using hose clips. Try www.freecycle.co.uk to see if anyone in your area has any lying round you can have for free!

mmm, we've had this discussion before, can't remember which thread it's on tho...you could do a search under "water"
You don't need to buy any gadgets...mine are linked with old hosepipe, works brilliantly.
Do you like my cobbled together downpipe? Well I wasn't going to pay a fiver to B&Q

Do you need to prime the tubes between the tubs?
Does the downstream end of the hose have to be at the bottom of the tub (underwater) to prevent the syphon from breaking?
