Water Butt question re setting up

Have a Sankey water butt that I've never used and now greenhouse is finished I want to make use of the rainwater off of roof. I have a gutter and downpipe. My water butt has a thick rubbery lid. There's no hole for the water to get in. Where do I make a hole in the lid or side of water butt?

hi cheffi i'd put the hole in the top,because if you put the hole in the side it will only fill to where the hole is.well thats my logic for you anyway.

And if you put the hole in the bottom you will have a nice 'bog garden' around it!
