  • Bannana's!!!!!!!!!!!!

Before i got into growing my own Veg i remember watching a bit of day time telly about veg growing. I remember an old bloke who used to take bannana's to the allotment and put the skins into the hole he dag for the veg!

He said someting like "by the time the plant needs feeding the skin would have decomposed and become food"

Is this a good idea? I can see that the theory works. But thought i would ask?

    Has anyone tried it?

    Thanks all

Generally put my fruit skins, veg peelings etc on the compost heap. Same principle, anything that is of organic (vegetable) origin will eventually rot down and provide food for future crops. It's just tidier to do it in a compost bin or heap. Many gardeners dig out a bean trench in autumn and fill with peelings, leaves etc and leave to rot down in situ instead of composting in a bin and then digging the results out to use. To each his own.

      Hi
I read that roses love banana skins for the potassium and as I loathe bananas - even the smell of them, made my sister eat 4 of them at the end of the allotment then dig them in under my roses. Now she does like bananas so this was no punishment for her - I hasten to add.
Roses all doing well, bursting with buds - don't know if the bananas helped or not.

I've put several banana skins in the planter with my tomato plants as well as egg shells.

Having never grown anything before I won't be able to tell if it helps or not but I have so many egg shells and banana skins around I figured I might as well use them.
