bronze can be hard or soft depending on the composition of the alloy and work hardening.some stainless steel is soft too,you may have noticed that "bargain" stainless steel knives and tools don't keep an edge as well as ordinary carbon steel, the main advantage is that it doesnt rust.
Remember, the Roman Empire was built on the legionaires whose main weapon was a short sword called a Gladius (from which we get the word gladiator)these were cast in one piece in carved stone moulds and the edges hammered out to work harden them before the edge was ground on.the romans continued to use them long after steel was available due to their resiliance and longevity as well as their lack of corrosion.
As for the soil benifitting from use of bronze,I doubt it unless you are going to lay trowels as a wall to keep the slugs out and at over £25 a pop I think i'll give that a miss
