  • Wood for raised bed

    Hi all
I have recently informed my other half that e can use the left over cladding in the shed (he made me a tree planter in the summer) to make the edges of my raised beds. It would make the beds 3inch high which is all I'm really after (just want a defined space that the kids have to keep off). However he thinks this will not be suitable and the wood will split. Now he is a qualified joiner so I usually go with what he thinks, but on this occasion I'm inclined to think I'm right and not just be impatient! The wood is half inch thick and as it won't be too high I don't think there will be a problem.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

Well, if you have no other use for it, why not use it anyway, even if it only lasts one season. You will have used something redundant, cleared space in the shed, and spent no money at all
    Location - Leicestershire - Chisit-land
    Endless wonder.

I'm with Mothhawk on this and anyway if you only need it to define the growing area it doesn't really matter if it splits so long as it works in keeping the little ones off the veg.

spacing of the ground pegs is what matters in my experience and if you lean the back of the spade against it lots when digging...

I made two of mine out of old pallets last year.

Have since replaced them, but only because KCN wanted to use deeper beds with nicer wood

Where do you get old pallets from?
