Can I store any unused shop bought compost from this year and use it next year?

Sorry to post this twice but I think it may go unseen in my other thread.

Simple question, just what the title says. When we moved into our house the previous owners had left a bag of compost in the garden, don't know how long it was there but when I opened it it was infested with lots of little flies! Wouldn't want the same to happen to any compost saved for next year.

Yes. Keep it well sealed and dry.

With the compost you inherited, you could have spread it out on a tarpaulin or similar and left the flies to fly away.

Thanks Rustylady, I realised later I could probably have used it, but I got a bit freaked out when I opened the bag! I got the council to come and pick it up

Worms are lovely. Even my 2 year old granddaughter loves them.

Yes, I'm starting to think so too. I feel awful when I accidentally injure one while digging up weeds :-(

Your granddaughter is lovely by the way. My son is a similar age and I often take him out in the garden while I'm doing a bit of digging. Good to start them young, I think :-)
