My SIL has Scorpions, stick insects, praying mantises, lizards & 2" long (bright green) grass hoppers + many other creepy crawlies in her garden.
The river Trent is lovely, I know because I have walked on it for 18 years.

I didnt think slow worms were good for the compost heap as they eat worms dont they.

I have loads and loads of these in my garden and several in my compost heap.

slow worms are FABULOUS! they eat lots of slugs.
I had them in my Brighton allotment, but we don't get them up here in Suffolk.

we've got lots of slow worms... also saw a grass snake once, but they seem to be much shyer. I love to see them, but dont want to get too close and wouldnt dream of hurting them (tho would like to be able to use my compost at some stage!)
also lizards, which unfortunately the cats catch.
our garden is a real haven for wildlife, mostly because of the amount of untamed areas in it!!! plus the world's most enormous logpile.

Could do with a slowworm or two as we have loads of slugs!

When I see the title of this thread I start to hum it to the tune of '3 wheels on my wagon'!

I have never seen a slow worm 'in the wild' so to speak. Only ever in reptile houses.

Seen plenty of adders, but no slow worms.

One of my lottie neighbours even swears he saw an adder wriggle across the road last summer by the entrance to our site, so I've warned the kids not to touch anything snake like without getting me first!
