  • Compost Question

    Can you compost pond plants?
My neighbour has a large pong and regularly has to thin out various oxygenators etc so I just wondered if they can be composted?

Yes, bung 'em in the compost heap - and the plants.

I would say pond plants are ideal, they are just plants after all. I get lots of blanket weed in my pond and regularly remove it to the compost heap, although i dont think it is a plant, more an algae.

I used to put mine on the compost pile after leaving them at the side of the pond for a day or two so 'things' could crawl back in.

Be careful there are quite a few invasive pond plants that will survive out of the pond. In which case just bag them for a year then add to the compost heap.
