Opinions please.

We moved in to this house 18 months ago and inherited a turning composter which to be honest I find difficult to turn (especialy since my wrist op). I dont really use it anyway as we also inherited lots of lovely weeds such as bindweed etc which I believe shouldnt be composted in case it regrows. I have therefore been making very good use of the councils brown bin for garden waste and only use turner for kitchen waste.

We have however now decided to start our own composting properly and just use council brown bin for very woody stuff, bind weed (etc) and excess lawn clippings (very large lawn). We have a bank in our garden that runs alongside a main road and have found an ideal area to locate a bin or two up on this bank against the fence which separates back and front garden. This area is screened but a large shrub so it is also out of sight. dh is busy strimming the area now ready to locate the bin(s) but I thought I would just seek some reassurance that we are going about this the right way. My thinking is this;

We buy one or two square bins from the council (thus cheap) (square so they sit against the fence as space constructive as possible). We then move the compost which is nearly ready for use into the turner to finish off (dh doesnt want to get rid of it) and we decant ready stuff into bags if we are not ready to use straight away in the garden.

I have prob totaly confused you all but any pointers would be much apprecated. Think I have given you as much info as I can.

I've always wanted one of those composting turning machine thingys! Do you mean to tell me they're not as good as advertised? No compost ready in 2 weeks with hardly any effort? Thank goodness I didn't fork out the exorbitant asking price for one, then.
You can make your own compost heaps/bins quite cheaply. I made a wooden one from offcuts of a dismantled wardrobe - that works well. We also got two black plastic Daleks from the local council; for £5 each, but I have them in the wrong place (too shady) so they don't rot down very quickly.
