  • Powdery mildew - compost or chuck?

There's a lot of mildew on my veg this year - cougettes, cucumbers, peas... etc

That's a lot of vegetation which could make good compost, but it's not healthy. My heaps/bins get warm, but not hot, so am I erring on the side of caution and preparing to bag it and bin it.

Before I do, I thought I'd ask for your thoughts...

Chuck it or risk it on the compost? What do you do?

Interesting. I do like a good burn up!

I found a facsheet just now which said it was OK to compost...

"it is an airborne disease and will not spread via the compost"

      Hmmm...

Don't forget you can use the ash for your plants, so they aren't wasted.
I've got enough grubs/pests/ diseases to keep an eye on, so I won't take any chances!
I too love a good bonfire!!!

This certainly is the 'Year of the Fungus' - which reminds me- I should go and check on my mushroom logs- I'd forgotten about them!
