Compost bin comparison

It strikes me as a bit odd that compost bins are made round and not square. Most H/M compost bins are square. If daleks were square you could butt them right up to each other and it would surely combine the heat from each, especially in the colder months, reducing the number of sides to chill.

Of course, you couldn't call them daleks then......

I've just got myself a "Milko" 220L Dalek for free off Gumtree. It comes with a bottom (although it has lots of holes). Leave it in or go bottom-less?

If you're putting it on the shingle/slabs I'd put the bottom on.

Sounds like we have a winner, I'll dig out the shingle so the worms can get in through the holes in the bottom, but keep the bottom on.

Guys, I've got weeds growing up into my dalek, so I end up with compost contaminated with horsetail roots etc. There's no hard standing to place it on... shall I put it on weed membrane next time I shift it?

Is it a bad infestation, or just a minor irritation to pull out?

I'd have to seive it all to be sure I wasn't spreading it around the plot. :-/ Being short of plot time I'm not a fan of labour-intensive... but if that's the only way, that's that.
